Usage of WISE in Science
In cooperation with Michigan State University, my classroom participated in a pioneering science program developed for web based learning. The WISE (Web-based Inquiry Science Environment) program is a flagship science unit for Heredity and Genetics in which students learn about the subject through online lessons coupled with in-class experimentation. The methodology of the program is rooted in inquiry. Students engage daily in asking questions, comparing evidence, reflecting on experiences, and developing personal theories through the inquiry process.
This program garnered much attention for its inventiveness, expert development, and new age implementation. As a result of the effort put forth between MSU and our classroom, Senator Debbie Stabenow visited our school along with a contingency of government and university officials. During the visit, my students displayed their knowledge and skills in using the program to the visitors.

Class Page for Social Studies
During my social studies unit on "The Settlement and Colonization of the Americas," I created a website for my students and parents to access. On the website, I posted each of my lessons, posted due dates for assignments, and unit review. To make sure all parents were aware of this resource, I assigned all students to view the website with their parents and created a contact form in which the parents signed off indicating they did indeed view the site. I regularly updated my page and consistently reminded my students to review the site for their benefit, especially if they were absent or knew they would be absent.
